Get involved with Ukandu at one of our upcoming opportunities
Ukandu is, first and foremost, a volunteer-driven organization. We're so grateful for the hundreds of volunteers who dedicate their time and energy to providing families impacted by childhood and adolescent cancer hope, joy, and connection.
Whether you're looking for one-day volunteer opportunities or looking to spend a full week at one of our residential camp programs we have something for everyone.

It was 2011 when Ed Burke, after going through his own cancer treatment, first heard about Camp Ukandu from his then Chemo Palâs parents.
âHis mom mentioned he went to Camp Ukandu and that, in the last year of his life, it was the best week of his life. He was bald and had one leg and at Camp Ukandu he was just a kid - no one treated him differently. I loved him so much and if this Camp could do this for him I wanted to be involved,â said Ed.

"For me camp makes the whole world make sense and it does that in a world that makes no sense at all"

"This community has become a second family, and it has simply fed my soul and made me a better person. Finding opportunities to serve here has become a priority, and I can't thank Ukandu enough for the community they provide me, and more importantly, these families of true warriors!"

There are two volunteer opportunities at The Loft, the Generalist and the Receptionist. The Loft Generalist plays a vital, dynamic role in the success of the Ukandu Loft. As an all-around program expert, the Loft Generalist ensures that participants have seamless access to every Loft experience, from creative spaces to relaxation zones. This volunteer has cross-functional knowledge of all Loft areas and provides versatile support wherever itâs most needed during a shift.
The Loft Receptionist is the first point-of-contact and creates a warm, organized, and welcoming environment. This role is essential for smooth daily operations, participant intake on Salesforce, and ensuring everyone feels informed and cared for.
You may apply at any time; applications are accepted on a rolling basis. We extend training invitations to eligible applicants based on our current group needs, your availability, and the flexibility of your schedule.
