Volunteer FAQs

  • Ukandu volunteers are passionate about creating an environment that centers hope, joy, and connection.

    Every volunteer must complete their training modules before their volunteer shift. Some opportunities also require one or more in-person or virtual training sessions.

    Most Ukandu volunteers must be at least 18 years old. Camp program volunteers need to be 21 or older. Volunteers must also complete a background check before volunteering.

  • Yes, our camp programs are a week-long commitment.

  • Yes, if your child is over 16 and the volunteering does not take place during hours of operation.

  • 1. Create a Golden account.

    2. Browse Golden opportunities and apply for a named opportunity.

    3. Follow the instructions in your registration confirmation to complete onboarding.

    All volunteers must apply, complete training, and be approved before completing their first shift.

  • Attend an upcoming Discover Session in Golden to learn more about volunteering with Ukandu.

  • Ukandu works with teams and organizations to identify an appropriate opportunity. Explore employee and group volunteering or email Chelsea Fredrickson.

  • For The Loft, volunteers are asked to commit to at least one four-hour shift each month for six months.

    Camp Ukandu and Ukandu Family Camp require a full week of on-site, overnight participation.

  • Volunteers welcome families, help register participants, lead activities, stock supplies, and support many other program needs. Most importantly, volunteers help create a welcoming, supportive environment for families.

    Your role varies by shift or event. Before volunteering, you will receive training and the information needed to carry out your role.

  • Cancel your registration by signing in to your Golden account or selecting “I can no longer attend” in your Golden confirmation email.

  • Join the volunteer newsletter to receive updates about new opportunities.

  • Most volunteer roles require at least one virtual or in-person training session. Residential summer camp programs also require one full day of on-site training before campers arrive.

  • Yes. Ukandu welcomes volunteers with personal experience or connections to its programs.

  • The Loft has two volunteer opportunities: Generalist and Receptionist.

    The Loft Generalist is an all-around program resource who helps participants access Loft experiences, understands each Loft area, and provides support where it is most needed during a shift.

    The Loft Receptionist is the first point of contact and helps create a warm, organized, and welcoming environment so daily operations run smoothly and everyone feels informed and cared for.

  • You may apply at any time because applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Training invitations are extended to eligible applicants based on current group needs, availability, and schedule flexibility.
