Ukandu Annual Programs

Teen Retreat is a week-long outdoor adventure for teens impacted by childhood or adolescent cancer. In partnership with LEAP, teen participants white water kayak down the lower 55 miles of the Salmon River and spend each night sleeping under the stars.

Ukandu Corps is a unique opportunity for 12-18-year-olds to work together, learn from local leaders, and complete a service project from concept to execution in the Portland community. Corps members earn service hours, grow leadership skills, and meet like-minded peers from the Portland-metro area. Past projects have included a holiday bazaar fundraiser, care packages for inpatient teens, and more.

Ukandu Family (Re)Union is a day for current and past volunteers, participants, and their families to come together and share memories, stories, photos, and so much more! This one-day event is offered each year to connect old friends and share stories. Old photos and old videos collide with selfies and video diaries, bringing multiple generations of Ukandu-ers together.

Ukandu (Re)Connects offer our community opportunities to come together throughout the year for moments of joy, connection, and outrageous fun. Whether it’s exploring science at OMSI, spending a day at the farm, or joining a family cooking class, our (Re)Connect events provide something for everyone.

These gatherings are designed to help our families, volunteers, and staff stay connected, share experiences, and continue to build our community outside of our day-to-day programs and services.
